Elbow Grease

Would you say your beloved furniture is truly loved, cherished, and holds many precious memories, yet is now looking a little tired after living a wonderfully fulfilled life? If so, it may be in need of some dedicated elbow grease and careful attention. This year, I have been refreshing a few pieces, breathing new life into them and ensuring they have many more years of beauty and functionality ahead.

The first part of the intricate process involves carefully removing the weathered upholstery and then meticulously sanding and scraping away the top layer of thinned and stained wood from your cherished pieces. After many dedicated hours of work, we will be ready to apply a finish that will not only protect but also breathe new life into the furniture, restoring its former beauty. Following this essential step, we turn our attention to comfort; in this particular project, the chairs had unfortunately lost their springiness, and when one sat upon them, the edges could be distinctly felt. To remedy this, I carefully re-webbed each chair and then renewed them with fresh webbing and foam, complemented by a stunning new leather hide seat in a rich forest green colour, embellished with polished brass pins that beautifully contrast with the warm golden tones of the oak chairs. (We have a range of cow hide leathers and also faux leathers)

The next part of this project was to turn our attention to the exquisite table top and its accompanying frame. With these beautifully adzed surfaces, you cannot simply rely on a machine sander, instead, you must carefully sand and scrape each divot, investing considerable time to eliminate any stains and dents. However, it is equally important to preserve the unique character that has developed with the table throughout the years of its life. Each imperfection tells a story, and it is our passion to honour that narrative while enhancing its natural beauty.
